The French Concession in Shanghai. China
« on: June 12, 2007, 07:45:51 AM »

On your next trip to Shanghai, you should make a trip to a truely unique European corner of China's second city before the fast changing district changes for good. It is a place where east and west mix to a fascinating effect. It is in the heart of Shanghai, where street markets spill onto the pavement and where walkers pass along on a board avenue with a backdrop of art deco and mock-Tudor facades. Very different from the rampart development that is changing the face of the city for ever.

Head towards Ulumuqi Lu and the main thoroughfare of Huai Hai Lu, a upmarket shopping street that stretches west to east across inner Shanghai. However a visit there isn’t just for the shopping, but more to experience the enchanting mix of small businesses, nightlife and restaurants. The key to your visit, is to remember that the area isn’t too big to explore on foot, go and explore before it lost and the developers take over.
